I recently (End of August) had my rear axle completely rebuilt. New axle shafts, bearings etc, gear swap everything was replaced. On my recent move from Michigan down here to Florida I got a high of 14.5 mpg. With each fill up the mileage improved. Started at sub-9 then 11, 12, etc. I had only put about 500 miles on the truck before the move. What strikes me as very odd is that I was only getting about 17-18 mpg empty on flat land. Basically I hooked up a trailer that's taller and wider than my truck, added 3500-4000 extra pounds, and ran it hard up down some large hills, and only dropped about 3 mpg?
Is it possible that everything finally wore into each other? Was my computer "learning" on the whole trip down?
