last night i killed the battery trying to get it started. i hear the fuel pump running but its getting no fuel, i pured some into the throttle body and it would start then die. my questions are weres the fuel filter? and does it have 2? my grandpa told me it has one in line and one in the tank, he also told me one was replaced a long time ago and he thinks if it has one in the tank its never been replaced. :lame:

the in-line filter is under the cab, just follow your fuel lines you'll find it. The in-tank is called a pick-up sock, its not often they get clogged but its possible. Since you have the bed off just pop the fuel pump out of the tank and check it out.

Having similar problems

PaleBlue90, let me know what you find out about your fuel delivery problem because I am having a similar problem with my 88 Ranger. Although it is an 88 model it is doing the same thing as yours is. 85-88 has two pumps , one low pressure in-tank and one hi pressure in-line. :dntknw:

well i kno that rubber on the fuel neck has been rotted for sometime now, i think when it has rained i got water in the fuel tank.... cuz when i pour gas in the throttle body it runs till that little amount of gas is gone. so i think ill need to drain the tank and such

i poured some of this stuff in the tank,
fuel problems

poured just a little fuel in the throttle body and it started right up and runs just fine now:clapping:
