Hey Guys, I'm sure this has been asked time and time again but I'm going to bring it up again. I have 35 inch tires on my Explorer and have been running them for 2 years now with 3.55 gearing but never had the funds for gears and lockers. I know it sounds retarded but my 4.0L turns them very well with my engine mods. Anyways I'm ready for some more torque for towing and off the line starts. I've done the math and are almost positive on 4.88 gears for my Dana 35 and 8.8. But I need some info from the guys who have already ran 4.56 and 4.88 gears. Anything like mileage, Rpm @ Speed, Overall best for 35's is very helpful...
My Explorer is a daily driver that does tow and does highway speed regularly but boggs in mud just as much. So what do you guys recommend for 35 Inch Tires??

Yep, go with the 4.88s.

I have a 4.0 turning 35s with 5.13s in the axles and they're just a little too deep. I think 4.88s would be dead on.

Depending on what tires your planing on running... how hard your planning on wheeling... I would suggest a solid Dana 44 would hold up to 38"s decently.

If you pull the Dana 44 off a any front axle truck which you would have to, yes it will have dics. You really won't ever run into a front axle these days or within the last 30 years with drums on it
