Default Rear drums

I have a '92 STX 4x4. I bought it used several months ago and don't know the service history. I'm having an issue with my rear drums. If I hit the brakes hard at any speed they lock up. It feels like they are the rear. I only say this because after the hard stop, and I continue driving there is a noticable drag in getting it going. It feels as though the parking brake was left on. I gave the brakes on all four corners the works, because when I started to take things apart brake parts started to fall off. New calipers/wheel cylinders, pads/shoes, discs/drums resurfaced, front hoses. I flushed all the lines while I was at it.

I just took it out for a test spin and I'm still having the problem. It's not as bad. Before I would have to rock the truck back and forth before they freed up. Now they just drag for a few seconds. My question would be: could this be a master cylinder problem? It's about the only thing I havn't changed out. My truck has no ABS.

EDIT: Forgot to mention while I was bleeding them the front spouts pumped good. When I tried to bleed the rear they would just trickle. Is this normal for ranger drums?

I had a similar problem with my Ranger...turned out to be the flex lines...they can, apparently, act like a one-way valve when the inside deteriorates...the brakes lock up because the fluid is not returning to the reservoir and staying in the lines...keeps the brakes engaged...

There have been a few posts on that since...if you haven't replaced the flex lines it could be the problem...

As far as the rears trickling, I didn't notice that when I bled the rears because I changed all the lines and connectors...could also indicate the flex line to the rear connector on the axle is NFG...

+1, replace the rear brake hose.

i thought all trucks came with rear-ABS by gen 2...

Thanks guys. I'll change the hose out when I get a chance this weekend. I wasn't sure about the ABS. I was looking for wheel sensors when I was under there. If there is an ABS unit where would they have stuck it?

The sensor ring is in the rear axle housing; you can see the pickup for it screwed into the passenger side rear axle. The rabs valve is on the frame rail towards the rear. If your rabs valve is on it's way out the flow through the rear bleeders can be a trickle, or none(which is what I had).

My brakes would lock up on hard braking, mostly at under 20 mph. The problem disappeared after the brake master was replaced.

RABS valve is right under the driver's butt on the inside of the frame rail. I would suspect it being the culprit. There is also a T on top of the rear axle.
