I am back from Iraq for a short time and I was wondering if anybody knows if the new goodyear dura trac tire is worth a hoot. I can't seem to find anything outside of goodyear info. When I get home for good I will finally be able to put new tires on my truck. Thanks for your time.

It must be new. First I've heard of it.

...I was just at Goodyear tire store yesterday inquiring about the new design change for the new MT/R's(new tread design and Dupont Kevlar), as I run the regular MT/R's on my X...The new ones look like the Pro comp Xtreme...There will be a writeup coming in a future Peterson's offroad magazine as they just tested them out last friday in johnson valley...

...The new MT/R's and Dura trac tires are so new, they just got the brochures into the store...

...The new Dura trac looks to be built as a BFG A/T competitor...The brochure for them is so basic, it don't say much...

...Sorry I don't have any more info on them...:(

...This might be of some help, it's all I could find...

...The write up:
"GOODYEAR WRANGLER DURATRAC"
"The Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac is a hard-working light-truck tire that is intended for use on pickups used in both work and recreational activities, and it features Goodyear's proprietary TractiveGroove Technology"

Hey thanks for the info tbars. I am kind of liking the looks of them. Maybe when I get back I will get theses. I just hope they work as good as they look.

....Personally, I would go with the BFG A/T KO's if I wanted a good all around tire that performs and last well...

...But, If you do like the looks of that tire, you might like what Goodyear has also just come out with...The new model MT/R with Dupont Kevlar...To me, it was designed for looks and highway traction, a change over the standard MT/R that is commonly used in offroading...

...The old MT/R...

"MILITARY MTR"

Goodyear's Military Edition of the popular Wrangler MT/R is approved for use on all HMMWVs (Humvees). It is commonly used on the "High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicles" in personnel and light cargo transport in combat zones.

..."GOODYEAR WRANGLER MT/R WITH KEVLAR"

"The Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tire has Kevlar-reinforced sidewalls that help increase sidewall puncture resistance by 35 percent, compared to its predecessor, and its wraparound tread offers enhanced traction in deep mud, sand and rocks."

I was looking at the bfg a/t's, but I think I would like to try something new. I am getting tired of the les schwab's tire cost and although the service was great. I think the bfg's are a little overrated.

Welcome back. I was very relieved to make it back for leave. However dont get back into the crap and forget where you are. Alot of guys come back from leave "too" releaxed. Kepp your head on staright, we look forward from hearing from you on demob.

Thanks for the advice and I know what you mean about too relaxed this is my second go round in Iraq. So I have to be even more aware of where I am. Hey tbars the new mt/r looks directional I have never used that style any drawbacks with that?

...Lot's of drawbacks unless you are only going in one direction...

...I am definately not a fan of their new design...I believe it to be designed more for the Mall Crawlers based upon it's looks...They did however, change the one center section which has some siping added to it...This was designed for better highway use of this tire...

To revive an old post from the dead, I happened to run across the tires I was thinking of:

And yes, the U.S. DOT doesn't particularly care for them. But they are very well endorsed by foreign wheelers.

Though, supposedly, there is a U.S. site HERE: Click me I didn't click around too much because it's late, but if anyone is curious it's there for ya.

i just put Lt235 75 R15 Duratracs on my 89 ranger andi love them. I drove it through the trails in my woods it went up every hill in 2wd that my old tires required 4wd, then took it back to the creek where it is pretty swampy and mobbed through it like never before. I bought them for 110$ a piece at americas tire also. good deal.

Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs-Not Impressed!

I've put on about 20,000 miles on the Duratracs. The tread is good in mud and snow here in the northern Utah mountains. The bad part about these tires is the thin sidewall. I've blew two out (glad they were under warranty). Although the tread is aggressive (and yes, they do hum on the highway) I'd much rather have a thicker sidewall for better all-around protection. I compared these to BFG A/T KO's and the side wall on the Goodyear Duratracs are about half as thick. I would not buy these again. I'm running LT285x70x17's on a 2008 Ford F-250 4x4.
