The timing chain was not taunt but has some travel in it, what would be normal travel / wiggle? Compaired to a chain saw, motor cycle, or is tight as a nuns **** on Sunday normal?

For $50.00 I might as well change it out while i'm there. The gears look like they will stand anouther 300,000 klicks, and by then I will be independantly wealthy and jet setting the world over.

I would change the chain, and sprockets as a set. They have to be removed anyhow......

I would if I wasn't strapped, sprokets = anouther $80.00 or so. The origionals have what seem to me little to moderate wearing.

The wear on each sprocket tooth is cumulative, and will cause a chain to be slack.......Give the new chain a try first, and see how much slack you have.

So what you are saying is, unlike a drive type chain, it is not only a matter of the chain being streatched but also the wear on each sprocket tooth allows for the chain to fit loose over each tooth?

This is not a high performace unit but a point a to b truck, would that make such a difference i wonder?

After thought... Maybe I should order both options, try the chain alone to see how snug it is and, if not so good install the 3 piece set.

Yep please do that--measure the slack in the old chain/gears---then put the new chain on the oldgears & measure that arrangement---then put the new chain/new gears on & measure that--teach me somethin about gear/chain wear:icon_thumby:

Thats a plan doorgunner. btw, in your quote did you mean brain damage or chain damage as per the start of this thread, ha ha ha.:icon_twisted:

Just checking cause I have noticed peeps like to yank your chain in here sometimes.

I think they term that an automatic choke chain, or chokin your chicken, somethin like that? tee hee.

ive seen chain sprocket sets for 60 bux, where are you getting this high price from?

napa quoted 3 piece for $125.79, 1 piece for $102.00,,, I found cheaper 3 piece today at Canadian Tire Co. for $77.67 oposed to just the $49.88 @ 1 piece when this post was placed yesterday,, 125-50=75

3 pc. set in louisiana for less than $60--NAPA--- just to give you a reference point . autozone about $50.

same price here in natchitoches la doorgunner thats why i was like wait a min somethings not right here...i think moranav6racing offers the set for 75 and im waiting on his double timing chain/sprocket set for my 3.3 turbo build. should be out this spring he said.

I believe NAPA Canada gives their parts a dusting of gold powder before they leave the shelf. This of course helps the parts mesh much better during the breaking in period. You get a rebate if you bring your used oil back after breaking in period is done, they then extract the gold and re-apply it to the next costomers purcase.
