Question Axle Swap

When swapping a 95+ explorer Rear axle with the disc brakes
Are the explorer axles 1.5 " wider on both sides for a total of 3" wider or 1.5"wider overall??
And do I need to add wheel spacers in the front or change the wheel off set??
I weld for a living so relocating the spring perches and the shock mounts should not be a problem.

91 Ranger extra-cab 4.0 V6 Auto /2' body lift /Fiberglass front fenders/31-10.50-15

Thanks for all the info so far !!!

The Explorer axle is 3" wider overall than a '91 Ranger axle (59.5" vs. 56.5" WMS-WMS).
