The 2.8's peak horsepower is 112 Hp @ 5000 RPM, the torque is 143 ft.lbs. of torque @ 2500 RPM, mine sure likes to get above 3k to get anything to happen at any rate. You might try low and work yourself up to find your sweet spot.
i was doing some hill climbs last weekend, running them in first gear 33 inch tires and 3.73 gearing. almost floored it really doesnt bog down (no tach) one of the main reasons i floor it is i need the speed for the hills where 2nd gear in low is to high.
i usually try to keep it below 6 grand but i've tacked 7500 once when pulling a truck up a hill and decided the only way to make it up was to keep my foot the floor in low range.
But i really don't like taking it over 7 grand and thats pushing, but they will hold to geather.
ya i dunno about 7000. sometimes when i get alot of wheelspin mine hits a fuel cut or something at high RPMs it like pops. but ya unless its on accidenti dont rev mine past about 5500.
Every time I have gon over 6000rpm. I all ways end up having to redo my valve lash. And going over 6500rmp I have killed my valve seals and I have found parts of my valve seals in my oil pan before.
