Well first off you just need to know that this 87 ranger has been sitting in my basement for about 8 years, so that is most of the source of my problems. The engine has been rebuilt and i have been driving it for about 4 or 5 days with no problem.
The engine sounds fine, and it rev's fine, but now its having a real hard time accelerating. If you hold the pedal over 1/4 down it will just stall so ive just had to feather the gas to even struggle to get past 45 mph. Also its blowing TONS of smoke out the exaust. I figured there was some place where oil was leaking into the cylinders. I read somewhere online that rangers will sometimes get a hole in the diaphragm of the pressure regulator and was mixing oil with fuel. Replaced the regulator and am still having the problem. I also noticed a oil leak twards the front of the crankshatf. Not sure if its the front gasket or if its dripping from somewhere else. I figgured before i take it to a mechanic and have to empty my wallet I'd make sure im not missing something very simple.I am only 18 years old so i am on a fixed budget so if there is anyone who has any advice i would greatly appriate it. Thanks! |

The smoke is white, it looks like regular exaust. The oil leaking out the bottom looks fine but when i check the stick it is about half way up, and "max" is only the first 2 or 3 inches.

If its halfway up the stick as in 5-6 inches, tehn it is way overfull. That will explain alot of smoke, unless i misunderstood what you were saying. you should drain the oil completely, check the plug and refill with the proper level of oil. Use a lucas oil treatment too.

So how does that stuff work? I've seen it before, but I don't know of anyone who uses it.
