Could a mechanical fan be locking up when the motor is running even if it feels free when the motor is off? Reason I ask is my fan is really loud and seems to be moving a lot of air all of the time, but feels free when the truck is off.

never gave me any trouble.

but then again, you cant say the mechanical fan did either.

a seized fan clutch will be siezed when the engine is off. its probably fine.

you should check the rest of your cooling system to make sure there isnt something causing the fan to come on when it shouldnt need to (a blocked radiator or stuck t-stat, for example)
