I'm trying to put my 4.0 back together, and the rear main seal I got from Victor has a steel sleeve on it. The instructions say to buy a Ford install tool, and I know that'll cost more than I want to spend. Any other ideas? It says to NOT hammer on the sleeve. From the looks of it, it is a very tight fit on the crankshaft.:icon_pepsi:

Side note: It looks like there's a lip for a 2-piece seal like the Chevy's have. Is this an option?

There's a way to do it with a piece of PVC pipe and a 1/4 steel plate. The pipe or coupling (correct diameter for the seal) is squared off on both ends, at an appropriate length, and the plate is drilled to match three threaded holes on the crank. Use three bolts to draw the PVC and the seal in. I saw this on a Ford forum, relative to an Aerostar 3.0, but it sounded like it'd work on a 4.0. Be careful, I believe there's a critical depth for the seal.
