Default Can I Swap A4LDs?

I need to know if the A4LDs have different bolt patterns. I need to swap a tranny from an '87 2.3L to an '89 2.9L. Are they the same, or can they be compatible with a conversion kit of some sorts? Please help - new to the Tech. stuff and I need a vehicle immediately...

Thanks,

~Jay
