My 94 2.3 runs pretty much like it should most of the time. other times it has a mind of its own. When i'm accelerating sometime the truck will "buck" really bad and every once in a while it will make a loud "pop" like it's backfireing. I don't have any codes and im really not sure where to start. any input is appreciated.

there are no codes, or you dont have anything to retrieve the codes?

You don't need anything fancy to retrieve codes except a piece of wire and the ability to count flashes on the check engine light. Check the wiring on the DIS modules for corrosion. The other thing you may want to consider is when was the last time the fuel filter was changed?

I do have a code reader... and the only one I get is 111 all clear. the fuel filter was replaced less than 1 month ago and it is a distributorless system. thanks for the input thogh, anything else come to mind?

So i unplugged the maf just to see what would happen, and the idle smoothed back out and it seems that the "bucking" is gone... does this mean bad maf? or could it just be coincidence?

just kidding... took it for another run and the damn thing started doing it again, then it died. but I was thinking, when you unplug the MAF it 'shold' run in "limp" mode. correct? So if i ddin't notice any loss in power or other unusual running conditions, maybe the truck is always in limp mode? Any one know what other reasons, besides having an important engine managment sensor unpluggged, for the truck to run in limp mode? thanks in advance, Bryan!
