Default M50D-r1 output shaft bearing?

Has anyone had to replace this bearing? How hard is it to change out?

I don't think i've ever heard of, or seen an output bearing failure in an M5OD. Why do you ask???

Well, I just replaced my U joints yesterday thinking that is was the problem but, I noticed up and down play in the output shaft. I can also hear what sounds like a bearing cage rattle.

I take it that it's a 2wd transmission? If so, the play you are feeling is likely in the slip yoke, NOT the actual shaft.

If you are turning the shaft by hand, what you are hearing is likely normal "noises" coming from the transmission. I doubt that you would "hear" a bad bearing turning by hand. If the bearing had actually failed, i'm sure that you would have worse symptoms than described and some sort of "catastrophic failure".
