Smile replace motor with 2002 4.0l sohc

does any body know if a 4.0l sohc will work in 1998 4.0l
ranger 4x4 and what about wire harness problems

They used that engine in explorers (as an option) in 1997- I'm sure you would have to have the PCM that was with the motor, not sure about the harness tho...

I think the OHV is stronger and better than the SOHC. You get better gas mileage too. Direct replacement. Why do you want to change to a higher revver for power? You getting the newer model cheaply?

And I am saying yes to the wiring harness. Fuel amounts, timing, etc are going to change between the models. Every swap I've done required a new harness, although they weren't on rangers.

You can't be serious. The sohc has 47 more HP (160 vs 207) and lots more torque, and I get 21 MPG cosistently! I'd be willing to drag race you if you have a OHV stock like my sohc is stock.
