I want to put a better exhaust on my Ranger. I will probably cut or completely get rid of the cat for the simple reason that its a fire danger in my area.

I want to get a Flowmaster, but after reading I understand there are some knock offs that are just as good but cheaper? Where can I find them and what are they called?

I would like to find a 1-in 2-out so I can dual it to dump right before the rear tires.

Thanks for your help

I know a couple auto parts stores that carry them around here. I'm running one along with a few friends, the quality and construction is identical to a flowmaster. Try looking for them at independent auto parts stores.

I got one the other week . . . called Flo-Pro (http://www.flopro.com)

Wasn't too bad, price-wise or sound-wise. That, and my butt-dyno said it's given a little life back to the old truck. Granted, I got a cat-back style exhaust with 2.5" pipes after the cat. Had the flange cut off the cat pipe, and the 2.5" pipe welded right to the cat. That probably had as much to do with the percieved butt-dyno action as the muffler. But, it sounds good at idle, and it doesn't bug me on the highway.

EDIT:

Specifically this one: http://www.flopro.com/FloPro.htm

There are many different brands and the auto parts store that has them here has changed brands a couple times. Mine was made by a company called Jones, they also had flowking and now they carry flowsound. Regardless of the name you'll be able to tell it's a flowmaster style muffler by looking at it.
The link you posted John isn't the flowmaster knockoff, it's this one http://www.flopro.com/VForce.htm

Thrush sells a welded, chambered muffler.

Usually about $30 bucks at Napa stores.

$30? Thats pretty reasonable... Is it a 1in-2out or just regular?

I've run both Flowmasters and Magnaflows on my little 2.3/2.5 four cylinders and to be honest I just had an exhaust put on yesterday and went with the Thrush turbo muffler. Can't tell a difference in performance in my opinion.

The Magnaflow I had on there was basically an empty can and the guy (Henry was his name.....good guy) actually showed me.

Money was an option at the time for me though, but I still think I made a good choice. Go for it!

Its very reasonable... and they sound pretty decent too. My friend has one on his 2.2 s10 and i like the way it sounds. He has a 1in-2out.

it might be hard to find a 1in 2out like you want. but theyre right go to your auto parts store or you can go to an exhaust shop. they usually carry flow knock offs. in fact i had a friend that those flo pros on his diesel. they sound pretty good. and theyre not obnoxious or anything either.

resurrecting an old thread, I know. Just wanted to add my testimony, I've got one of these flowsound flowmaster 40 knockoffs on my '02 F-150 5.4L. Has a fantastic deep tone and is quiet enough that I don't even hear it at highway cruise, just when I'm around town and get on it. My idea of a perfect exhaust. The rest of the system is completely stock, so I would expect it to be louder if it were on a vehicle with fewer (or zero) converters. It was $75 installed at my local shop, I think he wanted $125 for a Flowmaster.

I'm planning on putting one on my BII after I get the clutch job finished.
