I just picked up a low miles 90K 2000 2WD - very clean - well taken care of.
So what would constitute a general tune-up on this ? -new plugs -plug wires -aircleaner -fuel filter Any part of the ignition system to be looked at or upgraded ? Replace or clean any of the emission control stuff ? My goal is not uber performance as much as it is optimizing gas mileage. What a decent shop manual ... Clymers etc ? |

yep...all those things plus maybe a pcv valve too or clean the mass air flow sensor and change oil. i have the same truck with 80k miles and just did all that. i probably gained about 3-4 mpg. up to about 28 now which is pretty decent around town. oh yeah, try the air box mod and the throttle cable mod as well (look them up with the search function on this site), also a catback exhaust kit helps it flow better. my truck has never ran better. as far as the manual goes, i think haynes is the only one i could find on this truck. it helps, but for a lot of things this site has a lot more detailed info from experienced ranger owners that the manual just doesn't cover.

also, use only motorcraft or autolite plugs and wires. platinum or double platinum work the best.
