what type of tool for bed bolts

can someone tell me the type and size of tool i need to remove the bolts on the bed of my truck i need to access the fuel pump but dont have the tool to remove the bolts to the bed

It's called a torx bit, it's a T50. And nice name :idiot: Not to mention wrong forum, this should be in the Exterior forum
 
FYI ... at least half of them will probably snap.

Get a breaker bar...and a COUPLE T55's.
 
is it a torx 50 or 55 u guys mention 2 diff tools here
 
well i went and got a couple torx 55 and there too big just spent $20 on them this is not the right size does anyone on here know what there talking about because i just waisted $20 on something ill probably never use
 
If I recall correctly, I had a similar size issue on my 88 truck and ended up buying four different sizes (spending mucho moolah)...the bed bolts were actually T50s...but some bolts, like the ones I used on the body mounts and my seatbelts, were T55s....so you may be able to use them eventually...

Usually stores will exchange items if you have a receipt...I'd go that route if you can't use them...or maybe try them on the seatbelt bolts...otherwise, if the T55 is just a bit too big then it's probably T50...but you can also check a Haynes or other manual to see if it is specified for your year of truck...

I told you it was a T50, I am a body tech by trade and probably take a ford bed off in average once every two weeks.

For those of you that said T55, you need to not give out advise unless you are positive of what you're talking about. Most all ford beds from the ranger up to the f350 are held in by T50s and have been for years.

I never had any snap when I pulled the bed off my 92. Pulled it for the same reason too.
 
yes u were right it is the t50 got it all taken care of now and 2 bolts short
 
Where are you located? I have a few extras, but won't ship them. If you're local you can have them. If not check with the dealership, or just go to a junkyard and strart trying to get any loose.
 
I snapped two from my bed and probably three on the box I got to replace the old one...you can buy bolts (grade 5 to 8 recommended) from most hardware stores...unless you want to keep it stock you don't have to use the clips (those are what seem to rust out making it hard to remove the bolts)...

I just used some lock washers and did not use the lock-tite stuff on them in case I had to remove them again...
 
they must have changed the bolts on some rangers. Both my 93 and 03 have been t55 on the bed bolts. Rust is a PITA, good luck on the bolt hunt. maybe somewhere like autozone will have them if you ask at the counter.
 
I used a torx bit and an impact to remove the old ones when I did my body lift, it came with regular hex bolts which I much prefer.

I took mine off of my '85 and didn't break a bit, so it must vary quite a bit from truck to truck.
