i was looking through the tech section and all the 4.0 swaps are done on older vehicles. i have a '98 ranger and i'm looking to do a 4.0 swap. I've heard the trannys are interchangeable then i've heard thay are not. So lets say i get a 4.0 motor out of a '99 ranger. Besides exhaust manifolds and a computer what else will i need to swap?

Edit: thanks for the responses.

You'll need the 4.0 tranny, engine, computer, exhaust manifolds(maybe even the y-pipe), plastic air intake, wiring harness, radiator, maybe motor mounts, etc, etc.

The best thing to do is have the parts vehicle on hand so if you forget the little things you can always go back and snag it. Other than that these are the major components you'll need for the swap.

on the tech section it says the 3.0 and 4.0 used the same tranny untill '00

What he said ^(Ranger44)

The 3.0 and 4.0 use a different bellhousing bolt pattern. So a 3.0 tranny will not bolt up to a 4.0.
So you'll need everything previously mentioned.

so there is nothing interchangeable between the 2 at all?

They are from 2 different engine families, sorry bro.

They use the same tranny, the bellhousing patterns are different.

The bellhousing and gear box are interagal. Therefore you just couldn't switch bell housings or anything.

that sucks guess it's gonna get another 3.0
