So I found a Warn XD9000i on craigslist for $500. The guy threw in a Hilift, winch plate, reciever insert for the winch and a winch accesory kit.
So I decided it was time for a new bumper. I have been collecting stuff for a while. Picked up some steel for free a long time ago. Just little bits and pieces here and there. Got some Drings at a swapmeet.
All I have to say is that the materials available were the major consideration when building the bumper.
WOOT! I am by no means experianced at stick welding but I had a good teacher up at college and Cody (Destroyer000) for advice. Thanks again man! It all ended up with my welds coming out decent. Mostly.
I am using (2) 5/8-18 fine thread bolts per side to hold it on. As such, I didnt want to crush the frame rail which would be very easy to do with my impact. So I drilled a hole through the frame, put a piece of rod in and plug welded or rosette welded it in on each side.
And I added a reciever on the front because I do a ton of trailering. probably 1/3 of the miles that I put on my truck are with a trailer.
Tacked together.
This fawker is heavy so this is how I put it on there when I dont have 2 friends to help me.
Yeah it destroyed my approach angle. But I am putting together a lift kit to fix that.
Materials,
Tube= 2*6*.25
mount brackets = .500
winch plate = 5/16
top plating = 3/16
I spent about a week on it all told.
Welded with a Lincon 225 tombstone using 80T-AC plus rod.
So now I am pretty sure I am all set to run down 6" Oak trees and 10" pines!
