carb vent solenoid

anyone know if the carb bowl vent solenoid is normally open or closed?mine was direct short to ground,blowing 15amp fuse.it is disconnected until i can find replacement,and i can blow through it.is this normal or could it have failed open? previous owner simply pulled fuse,and i haven't noticed until my tach install.

I would guess that it's normally closed (open with the motor running) . I'll see if i still have mine hanging around and check it, it will be tomorrow though.

it should be normally closed...to prevent fuel from evaporating from the carb bowl while the truck is parked.

The fuel bowl vent valve is normally open (SV-CBV) The Canister purge solenoid (CPRV) is normally closed. Fuel bowl valve closes (SV-CBV) when the engine is running. When the engine is not running the valve opens and routes fuel vapors which are absorbed into the charcol canister. The canister purge solenoid is controled by the EEC system (pulses during operation). I hope this helps!!
