FYI to test the knock senser bring the engine up to normal temp and connect the timing light up to #1 plug wire and shine it at the timing marks, have someone tap on the block next to the knock senser and the timing should retard with the tappinghow much you want for it?
I replaced my old sensor w/ an aftermarket by matching thread size and connector, but i'm not sure yet whether it will do the job and my restoration is stock.
and yes, don't worry about the hole...it does not go through.

I don't know if that is sarcasm or not, but i asked the question because i didn't know.Never saw a two piece knock sensor. I also never saw the threads go all the way through.
I did not know this. I might just do that. You removed the sensor and the adaptor. The hex portion, which screws into the block, is a separate piece from the sensor. You could unscrew the sensor and replace the adaptor into the block.
