I want to know what it would take to swap from a C-5 to a C-4??
Ranger is a V8 with a 4x4 C-5, I want to know how much Time n $$ it will be to swap to a 4x4 (V8) C-4, This way I can Keep The RPMs n the Exhaust Sound down.. This will be my Daily Driver/Tow Rig... What Will I Need??? Its is a Ext Cab Ranger... Would a Short Bed, Reg Cab 4x4 V8 DriveShafts work??? I would like use as much stuff off the Parts F150 as I can.. Besides Trans n T. Case DriveShafts?? Cross-Member?? Thanx, Rob Last edited by Lil Ranger; 04-04-2008 at 02:42 PM. |

You'll be reworking everything from the engine back. The AOD is longer and won't accept the RBV t-case without the custom adapters. There are a few options, leave it alone as is; put the AOD in with the adapter to the stock t-case, you might be able to use the driveshafts again maybe not, AOD and fullsize case and new driveshafts. You'll probably have to move the crossmember.

The C5 is the same as a C4. The transmission in your truck was a C5 converted to a C4 with the RBV tailshaft housing. For a C6 it will be the same as changing to any other trans, reworking everything. If you want overdrive you'll be probably going to an AOD. If not the C4 will be fine. I would suggest a good shift kit and a good secondary cooler and filter. Not because of the transmission but due to the towing, we do that with pretty much all vehicles that tow a lot.
