need to R&R the fuel filler hose and will do the fuel pump while at it. This is 94 4.0 ext cab. Question is on lifting the bed. Are the 4 bolts in the bed all that hold it down, are there disconnects for lights or do I need to take the lights out and let dangle?

It looks like I should be able to do this by lifting just the front without pulling bed off, is this correct?

Thanks for any help.

There are six bolts in the bed and you need a number 55 torx to remove them. Then you need to remove I think it was three bolts for the fuel filler neck. The tail lights unplug from the rear wiring harness. You will need two people minimum or a good overhead hoist to lift the bed off. Takes about 20 minutes if the bolts aren't rusted solid. Soak them down with penetrating oil the day before you plan to take it apart.

You could prop up the front of the bed but IMO it is easier just to set it off to the side on some saw horses.

I just did this two weeks ago. I did it myself with no help. I used some tie down straps up over my rafters in my garage to hold the bed up. The hardest part for me was one of the bolts was so tight I had to take it to work and use an impact on it.

those bolts will make you hate life if you don't have a decent compressor and air tools... or a LONG breaker bar.

Soak them good for a couple days before you're ready to do it.

When I pulled my bed 5 of the 6 bolts were cake, but 6th was a PITA. I was just able to get it with a large pipe wrench after the T55 stripped out.

like 4.0 said soak em good or find someone with an impact and compressor. also if u have any beams u can do what dune runner said my friend did it and it is pretty easy as long as u make sure ur straps are the thicker ones not the little scrawny ones from walmart

If you use the search function you will see a lot of post on this subject. Most people remove the bed but I have never removed the bed to replace a fuel pump. I did my last fuel pump replacement in just about 45 min by removing the tank and tilting it and I got to everything that way. I did have to jack up the Ranger and put it on stands for saftey and better access. But it was faster than removing the bed and having to put it back on.

...just about 45 min by removing the tank ...But it was faster than removing the bed and having to put it back on.

I can have my bed off in 5 min.
Although, I've switched all the bolts to 1/2" hex headed bolts.

I had it lifted just a month ago to check power and ground at the pump.

The first time it was a PITA, and took 45 min, but I was so doing it for the rear suspension.

yep, removing the bed is a piece of cake if the bolts don't seize up. did this repair myself this past summer. it took me longer to remove the bedliner than it did to remove the bed itself.

Ok guys thanks for the input, I had all the bolts out a couple of months ago to paint in the bed liner stuff so they will not be an issue. Was mainly wondering what if any issues I would encounter with the wiring primarily but guess its not much of an issue. Now need to get my son to help me lift the fiberglass tonneau off so I can get in to work on it. BTW what hold the hose in? Is it a boilt in or does it clamp to something. Mine seems to have a split as it leaks when I fill it up. The fuel pump is mainly due to age and the opportunity to get at it while changing the filler.

That is fast, Bro. The 1/2'' hex is the way to go. Where did you put the bed when you removed it? Just moved it back some out of the way? I never had a buddy remove their bed to get at the fuel pump. They do it the way I do. Just old school I guess....lol

I've always done what Dune Runner mentioned. Just strap it up and drive away. It's so easy to take the bed off that I tend to take that approach more times than not. Hank, notice the new fuel filler hose in the bottom left. 1 hose clamp at the tank and 3 screws connecting it to the bed.

That's a clever hoist! I gotta do that, over here. I was expecting a block & tackle or perhaps a comealong.

My sweetie helped me lift the bed onto the frame, on Saturday. It was easy for me to lift, but nearly impossible for her, but together we managed to get 'er done. Hint: remove mudflaps beforehand, and unplug tail harness. Oh, and remove the 3 screws at gas-cap and ALSO remove the gas cap itself.

BTW, hank, no need to remove tail-lights, nor its harness. Just unplug the one electrical connector (at LHS of bumper) for the tail-light harness, which plugs into the bumper's own lic-plate harness. The tail-light harness stays with the bed, and is clipped to its underside. The gas filler-tube stays with the frame when you lift off the bed.

Will bed remain off for a long time? If so, a Fernco PQC-103 rubber cap from Home Depot is a perfect fit.

When my buddy first showed me how to do it years ago we used his bobcat to lift the bed. Doesn't get much easier than that! Of course if one didn't have a bobcat a wife/girlfriend would work too :)

I have no rear bumper and a shock hoop in my bed. I just lift the front and slide it backwards, it rests on the hoop and tips of the frame. Otherwise, if I take it completely off, I call my brother and we set it on an old bald set of 35x12.50 tires. Sucks having it lifted though... It's not that heavy, but that high in the air it is super heavy.
