Solved my rough running 2.9 by converting to solid lifters

Hello all,
Last year I posted about some problems I was having with my 2.9 running poorly, then I posted about trying to convert it to solid lifters. I got some PM's as time went on asking if I had done the conversion.

Well, I've been holding out on you guys. I engineered a stupid-simple, dirt cheap do-it-yourself solid lifter conversion and it made a huge difference in the performance of my high-mile 2.9. I installed it last December and drove the truck half a year before I finally sold it, putting thousands of miles on my conversion.

I wrote everything up with pictures and details, including a video of what my truck did before the conversion.

Hope this helps guys

Thank you. You say it was a bit thin. What should the thickness be?

Very much appreciated. Thanks for taking the time. Your hypothesis seems sound to me and I will try it on my truck with the same symptoms.

thanks for the update...it'll be helpful!

I seem to have misplaced my original "back of the envelope" (literally) notes with the measurements but I don't recall being overwhelmed by the number. If its significant to you and my notes don't turn up I can re-take the measurements from my Speed Pro lifter.

.27 is what my math says. No, that small a difference should not be an issue. Thanks though. The part number is what really helped. Four bags on order.

Sorry for bringing up old threads, but I am very curious to know if this has worked for anyone else. Sven Pruet's book also mentioned the use of solid lifters, and Morana Racing offers solid lifters and cams for the 2.9.

NarlinB, If you click the link, you will find the actual write up of the conversion. In this one's case, been a year, with no issues, other than a slight 'sewing machine' clatter at start-up, which was much less than the original hydraulics did.

Solid lifters for fe series engine fit. Same .874 bore diameter.
