Rattling Brakes!

So, I have an 86 Bronco II that goes through anti-rattle clips like a kid goes through candy. My brakes are always rattling!

My dad had the same problem with his 85 Ranger. It's like the anti-rattle clips just get worn out real fast or something.

Does anyone have any good tips/tricks to get them to stay in or ANY tips/tricks just to get the brakes to stop rattling?

I always open them up further to cause a little more pressure. I've seen some clips siliconed to the pad on some rigs in the junkyard, but I've never tried it.

Are your rotors on good shape? Sometimes a warped rotor could put presure at different points causing the spring clips to expand and wear at a faster rate

That 86 has those rubber bushed pins to mount the calipers.
Try a new set, they're cheap.

The other thing I always do is add a nice bead of that CRC Disk Brake Quiet goop everywhere the pad touches. Put a ring atop the piston and dabs on the ears and back of the stationary pad, after cleaning up the caliper contact points. Even if the pads have those plates I always use that stuff.

I do everything Earl said with two major differences.

1) I throw the rattle pads in the trash as soon as I open the box.

2) I use Motorcraft dielectric and caliper grease. I have found that the CRC stuff dries into a gel that can allow some funny things to happen if you goop it took thick. I also don't like the way it gets stuck in everything and never washes out of fabric and glues stuff together. It's worse than jizz once it starts to dry.

Maybe what I thought was silicone was the CRC stuff. I had some years ago that was spray on, but I didn't think it did a damn bit of good.

i had the same problem and i found if you bend the clip for a tighter snugger fit it seems to work better just is a bitch to get on.

Hey thanks guys.

I think I got it fixed by just bending the clip a little more so it's tighter and cleaning up the contact points where the pad touches and so far it's quiet again!
