Yes, that's right the carb is dead on my 83' we got it running today but it would only stay on if i used the accelerator pump or starting fluid. So I need a new carb I was to go with a new on because I need to eliminate this as a problem. I'm sick of rebuilding and pulling from junk yards. Anyway what carb should I get for my truck now that I know I need a new one? Looking at this,

Mainly because I took all my emissions and stuff off the truck so I don't want that. All I need if the vacuum advance and the PCV stuff.

It should

it sound's like the float level is off "R bad float"on your old carb u might try raising it a little, a carb is a controlled fuel leak the fuel level must be up to the transfer port passage in order for the engines vacuum to PULL it into the venturi.Jus sumpn to fiddle wit while a waitn fer de new shtuff.:icon_hornsup:

Yeah I tried that, I'm at the point where I'm sick of it. I need to put something on i know works so I can iron out the rest of the bugs.

Panda- I'm in a similar situation as you, looking for a carb and intake manifold setup that will give me more performance, along with cleaning up under the hood, and getting rid of all the emissions and vacuum stuff off. Here is my thread so far, it has some pretty good information in it; maybe it will help you decide what setup to go with. I’d be curious to hear what you decide and how it works out for you.

Good luck!

Well I just bit the bullet and dropped about $500 on my setup. Got a OMC 2.3 intake manifold off Ebay for $50, then I bought a Holley 2300 (350 CFM) and the right carb adapter to make it fit. I also picked up 4 new spark plugs and a intake manifold gasket. I assume it will arrive sometime next week, once I get it on hopefully the thing will finally run for me and I'll take some pics and video. Wish me luck.

I'll run the d-port intake manifold for awhile to make sure it works then I'll probably take it off and port it a bit to help it mate better (if it even needs it) and resist pooling.

Ah, just sent you a PM...covered this a bit...and since you have the gasket you can get started on comparing the ports on the head with the gasket...I'd like to see pics of that when you have time...and definitely want to know how everything works...

$500 that could give you big results is a small investment...:icon_thumby:

If you don't have one get it it was the best bang for buck I made!:icon_hornsup:

Awesome man! I am super eager to see pics and how it all turns out for you. That's funny you bought one of the OMC intakes off Ebay, I have it on my watch list, and saw they had 2 available originally and now just one since you bought yours, so I better swoop the other one quick before another member gets it! Haha.

That's on my list too. You better get it before I do. If I can't find one at the bone yard tomorrow I'll bite.

Also someone tell me if a EFI d-port head will fit on my carb'd "83 ranger. I know the 4 plug is best but the 8plug is doable right?

Haha... I already have one, but you should pick it up. I think it would go nice with your upcoming setup :) (Unless you can find one cheaper at your local scrap yard).

They came in 93-97 Ranger 2.3's and Mazda B2300’s. 93-94 had bungs for O2 and EGR, 95-97 had the EGR only, if that matters to you.

I'm not positive but I want to say I have read somewhere that you'd be fine using an EFI head.

I'm just gonna pick one up and let it rip. I'm extremely confident in my mechanical skills. Also all my parts came today so by tomorrow it will all be bolted together and i'll post an update.
