Today I had a guy come test drive my ranger and after he finished checking the 4 wheel drive we could not unlock the right front hub. It does have the replacement warn manual hubs. Just for clarification we could not turn the knob from lock to unlock he's wanting to buy the truck but, is concerned about the hub, how can I fix it?

Try rolling backwards or jacking the wheel up. It may just be loaded.

I tried that all but, the jacking it up part (will do that in the morning) I also tried re engaging the 4 wheel drive, driving it around, tried unlocking it while in 4 wheel drive, after going forward and backward, and then after driving it home. I really hope it's something simple I'd really like to get the truck sold.

If you can't get the hub unlocked with the wheel off the ground take the hub off and try unlocking it off the truck. If you can't get the thing to move, just go to the junk yard and grab another hub.

or take the hub apart and clean it.. should be a snap ring then either your brass collar, or your bearing . then a little gear. and a big spring. on the knob behind the warn sticker a number 2 philips and the hole assembly comes apart.. pretty easy to do .. might just have some muck stuck in there.

I tried again this morning and still no luck so I went ahead and drove the mile and half to work and tried it again.......presto! it unlocked. I guess it was just loaded.
Thank you for the help. Now maybe I can get it sold. |
