i am wanting to convert my truck into a v8 i heard there was a converstion kit for between the 302 and my stock tranny?:icon_confused: if true could someone tell me when i could buy one?

Second: Yes they make adapters but don't waste your money. A V-8 needed the stronger trans, most use one out of an F-150 for a 4x4 and the mating x-fer case.

ok well mine is 4x4 so should i get the hole engine/tranny/transfer case out of an f150? and a buddy of mine said that i should get a carborated one because then you wont have to worry about the wiring harneses, is this true?

Yes it is true. I would go with a Expo 4x4 though. There is a good how-to in the tech library here. It would also help to know what yr your truck is for better opinions.

The Explorer transfer case is full time AWD, not a traditional 2hi/4hi/4lo deal.

Do you want the electric shift transfer case (push button) or a manual shift case?? Unless you do some frame mods or custom crossmember, you wil be limited on your choices on your cases...

ouch i dont like the sounds of a full time awd... id rather manual 4wd.. id rather trust myself then a computer

The newer the better, any year can be converted to carburation.

For a truck that is already set up for EFI though it would probably be easier to stay with EFI.

No new harness, just finding the right wires and splicing, have to do that going either way. You had best get the wiring diagrams for your truck and what ever you are going to use as a donor. Cheap on e-bay, Helms are the ones you want.

This is something that I plan on doing in next year and plan on just using a an F-150 manual tranny and transfercase.

As for the engine Im told from one of my dads mustang guru (he got to test drive the new 2012 mustang without signing papers, dealership called him up on it, etc... if that tells you anything) to get an 88-93 302. The crown vic and grand marqie are the ones Im told to get. I think they have the dual sump oil pans on them which saves you money on no thaving to buy a dual sump.

Im still doing my research on all of this. My thing is to stay with fuel injection or go carbed...guess it all just depends on what the engine comes with and how much work I want to do.

Those are great motors to start with but most will need rebuilding and way down on power. Most go with finding a low milage Explorer because of the better intake, TB, heads and shorter front dress. Found this one now on E-Bay for $849, no mention of miles but sure looks in good shape. Shows all the front dress but no mention if its included. Dual sump pans are a dime a dozen.

Im told those are some of the best years to get from and the higher up luxery car have the HO engines. Im wanting to do this on a budget, dont need a ton of HP but something that I know will get better mileage then my 2.8 which is getting 10mpg and even if I get that out of a 302, then it would still be worth it in the end to me.

The JY that I go to has these cars everywhere so finding the one I want shouldnt be to hard plus dont think that they were owned to much by people that drove them into the ground. Basiclly start popping hoods then looking at mileage and go from there. I may just go with FI since I have the tank for it that has the pump (broke atm) and the frame pump (still works) on my truck. May be cheapest to stay FI if thats what the engine comes with...wont know till I get to that point.
