If we are talking about the 86 in his profile, it has a 7.5 (unless it was already swapped to an 8.8 and he hasn't told us). I'm pretty sure 3.45 was the highest gears offered in the 7.5, meaning going to an 8.8 will be his best bet for getting 3.08 gears. The fact that setting up gears is a PITA while doing a drop and swap on a rear axle isn't that hard also supports my response to the question.

My first 97 2.3 came with a 7.5 with 3.27 gears. I don't mean to thread Jack but thought I'd mention to adsm.

Add to this that most people who ask about taller ratios (without explaining why they want them)
suffer under the common (But mostly wrong) belief that taller gears will get them better mileage. (Incase you need it spelled out, you won't)

You might gain 1/2-1 mpg by changing to a taller gear ratio. But you would ruin the towing ability and put more stress on the clutch if you have a manual transmission.

Last time I looked through the axle ID coding in my 1987 manual the available gears were 4.10, 3.73, and 3.45. When I make "blanket" statements, like that, they usually only apply to my knowledge of the model years in question. If you really want to spread out I can think of a number of years the Mustang came with 3.55 gears in a 7.5 axle. Most people aren't going to think outside the box and go look for parts from very different years or other cars.
