Hey crew,

This is my 2008 Suzuki DR200SE, I took this photo in June of last year

I've owned this bike since new and absolutely love the thing. It's super-light, has good power and is all around a good bike. But there has always been a few things I would like to change. Now that it is coming off warranty i figured now is the right time to start modding it. So far all that I have done to this bike is bust a signal light, install a camera mount and put on an aluminum ThumperTalk skid plate.

My plan for the next little while is to replace my white side panels with black ones to kind of "murder out" my bike. I also picked up an Acerbis Supermoto front fender to replace the duckbill and an FMF Q4 slip-on exhaust. And kicking around somewhere is a set of stubby signal lights.

I have a few more things I want to do to the bike over time but this will be my side project as I work on the truck so follow along to see some cool stuff done to a little dual sport:icon_thumby:

Looking good, I'm thinking about getting a DS myself for the summer but I may go with a road bike instead. How fast can you get with the 250 cause my dad says a 600 would be the size to go with.

I like the 200 because it is built on its own lightweight chassis. It only weighs 225lbs so it can motor with that little engine. I'm more of a less-is-more person though when it comes to bikes. I've had it up to 110 KMH and it was alright, cruises better at around 95 KMH.

Tonight I started with the teardown of the bike.

But first here are a couple pictures of my ThumperTalk skidplate, it was my first purchase for this bike and admittedly the most useful.

Here is the factory exhaust I will be replacing with the FMF slip-on. The factory one is known to be fairly restrictive and very heavy.

The exhaust that will be replacing it!

One thing I've always found about this bike is that the horn is in a ridiculous looking place, it looks very tacked on.

So I am going to extend the wires and hide it here, behind my headlight. Just need to drill a small hole in the bracket.

Various tear down pictures.

Notice anything missing:D

My ingenious idea to drain the fuel tank, I'm bringing it down to work to get the bright orange safety decal removed.

Here's a mock-up of the look I'm going for, this is with the Acerbis fender and headlamp surround from Dad's '08 DR400SM. That's the bike I am loosely replicating.

Stayed tuned for more updates, I'm picking up a few necessities tomorrow to keep this project rolling:icon_thumby:

Ordered up a heat shield today for the new right side panel. Figured that would be a good idea considering the new muffler placement is even more tucked in than the factory exhaust.

I also committed to the motard headlight surround, this bike is going to be a real looker.

sweet...looks like they put those bikes on a pretty good diet since i've been on them.

i rode a dr350 in enduro for a while in the '90s when my dt was stolen,i couldn't believe how heavy the thing was.i simply couldn't control it on the tight twisty downhills.

mind you, that was a while ago....but it helped build my dislike for 4strokes.starting the thing was a pain after a spill, too.while i've been out of the game for a while,i understand 4strokes have really come a long way.when i was riding the idea of a 4stroke motocross bike was unheard of...now they are the norm.

looking forward to seeing how she turns out:icon_thumby:

Thanks Tom.

I used to be a diligent 2 stroke person but after getting this bike I am starting to like the low end torque. Not to mention getting the power without having to to rev the crap out of the bike has become nice. It starts just fine after a tumble too, it does have the "10 pound button on it" but I'm looking for a kickstart retrofit kit of the AUS model. The hole is on the side of the case, I just don't know what else is involved. All this stuff I'm doing to the bike should help put it on a little more of a diet. The front fender is lighter, the new exhaust is lighter and the signals are lighter. Plus I removed the oh-so-heavy horn bracket:D

I'm looking forward to riding season already.

Hat tip to Brent in the body shop at work, all the bright orange & white safety decals are off the tank. Waiting on parts to arrive and the weather to warm up a bit (it's kind of hard to keep the shop warm when it's -30*C out:D) and I'll jump right back into it.

looks sweet mike! i had a 1986 suzuki SP200 and that thing was a blast, but i didnt get to ride it like it was meant to be ridden ( i was jumping it almost daily and it didnt fly worth a damn) and ended up selling it and buying a 1987 cr125 so i could ride the mx tracks with my friends. i really miss that bike and wish i hadnt parted with it since it was in almost this good of shape.........

Thanks F.O.R.D.

I can really see the family resemblance:D

Now I'm just drawing up ideas of a custom rear fender treatment...

Still waiting on parts, hopefully should have them this week and have most of the bike bolted together on Sunday.
