Default Using a 91 Explorer engine in a 96 4.0 Ranger

Ive got a general question. Ive been out of the loop for a while with Rangers and Explorers. My friend's son fried the motor in his 96 Ranger with a 4.0 and manual transmission. Ive got a 1991 Explorer 4.0 engine (automatic) and told them they could use this engine as a replacement. The kids mechanic said it wouldn't work without spending lots of money and I told him it will as long as the same wiring harness and computer are used. Thoughts?

I've done it, talk to Destroyer000 about the specifics, he's got a 96 ranger with a 92 explorer motor in it and quite a few trouble free miles. Pretty sure it's just swapping all of the sensors, fuel injectors, the driver side exhaust manifold (96 has egr), and the upper intake. It's pretty much a bolt in swap.

Thats pretty much it. I've done almost the exact same swap.
