haha yeah screw on. Its my first CB, and Im not looking for anything spectacular. More or less just for the trail, and on convoys driving somewhere. I think ill pick up a Cobra 18 or 19...thoughts? and 18' of coax should work eh?

Well... for your purposes, either will work. The main difference between the 18 and 19 is the weather channels, and the 18 has a front-facing speaker...

Personally, I'd go and get a Cobra 29.... one of, if not the best CB's available... granted, its a bit much for just offroading, but it should last a long time and its been tried and true.

^^AGreed. Tha'ts all I use mine for anyhow.....trailriding and BSing around town with friends convoying. Even P&T'd mine and it's swinging about 70w.

The 19 is just fine for ya....but I liked all the added options and available mods that can be had with the 29. Plus...you can get 'em pretty cheap used. Buddy of mind bought a brand spankin' new 29 ltd wx nw for $60 off craigslist. That's less than half off.

good stuff, ill keep my eyes peeled. Does the 19 have a speaker, or does it require getting an external? thats the only thing keeping me from getting it over the 18. That is if i cant find a decent 29 used. And as far as coax, am i right in saying i need an 18' length, and what about coiling it? i read the coiled vs not coiled discussion (more like a grudge match) in another thread...so whats the deal? Never had a CB...feel like a noob all over again.

19's a great starter radio.....bottom facing speaker, PA, 40ch, emergency channel w/ push of a button. It's actually what I ran before the 29. lol.

Get an 18' coax. Don't coil it, just Z or S it under your carpet.

I go by what my local shop tells me...they're the only cobra authorized warranty repair shop in the country.

Picked up a Cobra 18 cb unit...got it over teh 19 because of the forward facing speaker. Also got 18' of RG58U coax. Also bought a different antenna, they had firestiks at the place i bought my cb, seemed 'flexier' . I dunno, either way haev a spare now in case i break one. Ill post pics soon...

FWIW.

I got Midland 1001Z, same as the Cobra 19, except different brand, and I'm going to be running a 4ft firestik, pretty much just like yours. Are you running yours in a hood/fender mount?

Edit: I looked at the Cobra 18, seemed like a good radio, but i needed something compact. I'm also going to have a full-size business-band radio so that took up the room for a full size CB.

I think I'm going to make a bracket and bolt it to the drivers side bed corner ( at the back) near the tail light. Ill rig everything up on saturday and post pics.
