I am considering the dreaded 2.9 to 4.0 swap. I have heard that the aerostar had a 4.0 that would swap out. the donor I am looking at is a 92 aerostar.
My bronco 2 has a 4 speed standard with OD and the aerostar an auto. Can i still make the swap and keep my tranny? What about wiring harnesseseses?

All input appreciated

Mike

if you have a complete donor, its anything but dreaded. its stupid easy.

^Agreed. Took me 4 days to pull my motor and have the 4.0 in and running. Thats with work every day too.

probably spent more time cleaning then any other aspect too right:D

Thanks all
so what would be the BEST donor? 1993 ranger with standard tranny like disciple used or is there a better one I should search out?

sorry disciple. brain fart. Yours was an 94 explorer with an auto. close though. anyway, same question...... what's the BEST donor

For your 90 B2, a 90-91 Ranger is straight plug and play. No splicing.

I swapped a 93 Ranger in mine the loom plugs are different so you can't change pins on the wire loom. The 93 also had a camshaft synchronizer that's very hard to locate when it starts squeaking.I got it for free though and i'd grab it again wound up putting a zerk fitting on the synchronizer.

awesome....:icon_thumby:

i usually stand alone whatever i am working with. the explorers have electrical and physical engine/trans changes of one sort or another every year through the year and mixing and matching stuff can lead to the dread factor.

if you get a solid running donor your golden. the newer the better. though a brand new unit or and of the pats type systems would require some tuning to simplify it for an old school swap.

for the beginner the 91-92 is definitely the easy button
