what is it? like some of the heavy equiptment that pivots in the middle?

something they used on old powerwagons, looks like it would create alot of engineering issues. I dont see the point in going through all the extra work. Good suspension design will go a long way in building a capable wheeler.

What engineering issues are you referring to? Looks pretty straight forward to me.
 
i dont see how it would be that complicated either. and mix that frame with a good suspension and itd be even better. i saw that one in the top truck challange and it was pretty cool

Only good offroad, I personally think that is why. What production vehicles have legitimate features that are only good offroad? not many car manufacturers consider offroad things extreme like that for the average vehicle (these days). i don't think its a gimmick, just not a widely used and explored thing. Most people stray away from things so different and somewhat relatively unexplored. Now i want to do it!

For me its just more work than its worth with little or nothing to gain.. Its been said that there was one at top truck challenge that didnt do well. Have you see any at KOH or the baja 1000? Its kind of neat and different but I dont see any real off road advantage to it myself.

Because if that one pin breaks you two halves of a truck to extract from wherever you are at.

Take the bed off, and make the rear axle pivot like the front axle on a tractor, would give you a lot of flex without the liability of a single pin breaking. It would ride like a lumberwagon, but it would flex like few others.
 
I have a 1956 Dodge Power Wagon with a Trucksell/Willock Swivel Frame in it. It was originally belonged to the Florida Department of Forestry. The swivel was designed to stop the frame from flexing and breaking. I have had a few Power Wagons with frames that were cracked and repaired.

They were used where there were no roads. My understanding is that they were designed for 2 & 3 ton, 2 wheel drive trucks. The driveshaft would go thru the large hole in the center of the swivel.

I cannot imagine the chrome molly swivel breaking in half and leaving me stranded. The swivel mechanism will definitely outlast the truck's frame.
