what computer to get?

i need a new ecu for my truck. the one i have in there now is for a auto i need one for a manual. i was wondering how do i go about this? its a 1997 5 speed 3.0 4x4. Do i have to get the same year computer or is there like a set of years i can choose from with a 3.0 5 speed.
 
Do you have a computer thats bad that came out if so they have a number on them that tells you what ones they are.If not maybe research to find the number maybe from the vin and the dealer.Then maybe comb the JY's for your module?
 
go to your dealer and ask for the part number for the ecu you require. believe it or not most picknpulls have what yr stuff will interchange on file as well. i dont kno if this is the case with your truck but my coworker bought a crate engine (3.0 2004 model) that came with the auto engine harness. it has the transmission sensor plugs but no rear end sensor plugs, whereas the manual trans model harness runs a speed sensor off the rear end. make sure you have everything else inline or you could be out looking for more parts, again not sure if that will affect you but fig i would mention it.
