so heres the link to my ranger build when it was still gonna stay a ranger.. http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128624

now that you have hopefully read the previous thread, heres what i gots ta show ya!:icon_thumby:

so my Ranger wont pass smog here in CA... and i dont want to ever deal with smog again on my crawler, so i used a small loop hole to get around smogging it. in CA any vehicle that is pre-1976 doesnt have to do any emissions testing what-so-ever... and ive been looking at this jeep for a while... and ideas got tossed around... so now im the proud owner of a new-to-me 1954 Willys Jeep pickup cab!

my plans are for it to be something like this, except the fenders will be white and the rest will be that sweet universal willys metallic green:D

any questions, comments, B.S, ect... are appreciated!

so iv gotten a lot of work done!
i have learned that this shit is a life saver when it comes to rusty old bolts!

most of what i have been doing is tearing down the ranger.... we decided to try and use the floorboards from the ranger in the willys because the willys ones are rusted out pretty bad.

so next is to cut the body away from the floorboards on the ranger, then brace the body on the willys and cut out those floorboards, then set the willys on the frame and do some trimming/welding!:icon_welder:

oh, also i was cleaning up the frame a little bit with this grinder and ended up catching it on a sharp spot... the damn thing whipped around and caught me right in the balls.... worst pain iv ever had in my life.:shok:

Can you still Father children?
Grinders can be one of the most dangerous tools out there. I got 17 stitches in four of my fingers one time. I got lucky and have full use of all of my fingers still.
This looks like a good build.
Good luck,

Richard

Haha I think I'll be able to do that, I'll just be walking funny for a couple days...

Nice Willy's

Good start on the Ranger.

My first vehicle, after a dirt bike, was a 1955 Willy's Overlander Utility Wagon, flat head 6, Super Hurricane engine, 4x4.
I was 15, engine was laying in the back, it was $200, got it running by the time I had my license.
Learned lots of things working on that truck, but the one thing that sticks out the most is...........
Never oil the brakes on a car even if they are squeaking :)
They smoke....A LOT
Brakes are not the same as door hinges :)

I too have been contemplating using an old Willys Overlander body with my Rangers runnin gear...

haven't found any good candidates around here though....

I'll be watching this:icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

well so far the swap is looking to be VERY simple, the ranger and willys have very similar dimensions and it looks like my approach angle is going to be better cause the willys cab is a bit shorter, so that'l be good

iv got the the floorboards cut out of the ranger:yahoo:

yes... that is sasquatch in the background....

progress is happing quick!:icon_welder:
we decided that we probably wont be using the ranger floorboards so we took em off.

we mocked up the willys on the frame, we need to channel it so its not so damn high on the frame, but it looks like it is gonna fit well, except that the engine is too far forward and there is no room for the radiator... but we have actually been interested in moving the engine farther back, itl give me more front driveshaft length which i need badly, and better weight distribution. so it should be cool when its done! pictures...

my new approach angle, im cutting off a bunch of the frame up front... gotta love 4 link:icon_thumby:

thanks:icon_thumby:

iv got my engine moved back 9 inches, and my floorboards cut out... picture time.

tomorrow the cab is going back on for some bodymounts!

It is looking good. I think you have been hanging around the Fresno 4WD club to much. Between you with the 50s willys, bart with the old dodge, and the guy with the old international truck you have some old school trucks in that group.
