TFI help

First post. Looked around but didn't find an answer. I got a 1988 ranger 2.9 it was running ruff after it got hot and sometimes died. Found the tfi thread. I replaced it. It started ran for a bit then died now it won't restart. I used the arctic 5 compound as suggested but it was after it died. Any help. What kind of checks can I do? Did I fry the new tfi. The one I purcheed was a off brand. Thanks .

sometimes you can get a bad tfi, or since you didnt put the stuff on it could have fried

has any had experince with the mcully racing tfi relocation kit? http://www.mccullyracingmotors.com/index_files/tfikits.htm for the price it saves me the trouble. i contacted them and they said they sell alot for the rangers. thanks

ordered my tfi relocation kit and got a motorcraft tfi. then my baby will be ready to run the all summer.

Yea its just plug and play. Have you gone through the cooling system completly. On older motors I allways flush the block out good when replacing the water pump. Pull the thermostat housing and with a high pressure hose blast good in both the water pump holes and back through the intake manifold. What happens is rust settles in the low spots in the block and insulates the heat from transferring out of the block into the coolant. Just something to consider its the right time of the year to service the cooling system.

i put the tfi relocation kit in with a new tfi. I still have no start. before this i took the old one out and put a used one out of a 88 bII. it started fluttered and died. that was the last time it ran. when i turn the key on i can hear the fuel pump prime so im assuming the pump works. im going to check for spark tonight. any other ideas? thanks
