8.8 is a low pinion rear but is about 1.25" higher than a 9. I think the 9" is the lowest of all the rear axles.

Both being stock 31 spline, strength is about the same. And I already have gears and install kit for the 8.8.

Eh. I guess there are lots of pros and cons for both axles and like you said, you already have the stuff for the 8.8. Whatever gets the job done. And if it breaks you can always swap it out for something else.

Did you happen to measure ground clearance from the bottom of the housings? Always wondered how much you would gain with an 8.8 over a 9, but don't have anything to measure off of myself.

Disc brake bracket will need half the 3.25" circle cut off. And the shocks are 12" travel.

I don't think the full width rear will be in by then but maybe shortly after.

What do you guys think about this idea?
302 with propane(2 barrel got propane kit) and duraspark ignition, np435 trans, 205 with twin stick, ditch the cab but keep the rear tubing and tube out the front.

Also move motor and trans back about 6 inches to keep driveshafts the same length.
