a chip won't help you...
nothing really with help you. if you want more high end you could always go to a 3.55 or 3.27 gear ratio but that's gonna hurt your low end.. a 4.0 would help.. is that not fast enough? where is the speedlimit over 70 anyways? look, i'm not saying this to be a jerk.. i'm saying this bc i've been there. unless your ready to drop MAJOR money into the 2.9, just leave it as it. i did the polish, cam, headers, bigger injectors, throttle body spacer, and chip on my 2.9... and was very dissatisfied!!! it was a WASTE of money. for less than i spent on all that stuff i got donor explorer w/ 4.0 complete, trans, t/case, and axles that i'm using on my b2. the stock 4.0 was better than the expensive 2.9 i built. sure you can get more out of a 2.9 than i did, but why???? a 4.0 swap was cheaper.. then i could use that extra money to build the 4.0 if i wanted...but there's no need in my case. |

I think 4.0B2 hit the nail on the head, get rid of the 4.10's. You could get a 3.45 with the 7.5" which should still be enough to get you going, plus your engine won't be screaming at highway speeds.

what size tires do you have?
somethings wrong.... does your TC lockup? do you have OD at all? at 75 with 205/75/15 tire size.. you should do 70 at a little less than 3000 rpms.. here, go here.. fill it in, look at the numbers http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html |

I had a ranger just like yours before i got my current ranger and it sucked speed wise. IMHO a 2.9 should never have an automatic behind it, because my current ranger is a 4x4 5 speed with 30" mud grips and 3:73 gears and i have had it up to 110 at 4200 rpms. i cruise down the interstate at 70 turning about 2800 to 3000 RPM's no problem. Just my $0.02 worth

It has 31s. I had it on the interstate at 70-75 at 3000 rpms but i think it would go if it had a 5 speed. How much would it cost to swap in a 5 speed and would it be a straight swap?
