Default Hello all

I am theAntihero and i approve of this forum Ive got a 91 extracab ranger 4.0 5 speed 4x4 that is actually my first car and has, until recently, sat in the woods for 7 years not running .It had a phantom starting problem that i got tired of screwing with. Now that im a bit older and, i hope, wiser ive decided to resurrect it.

The starting problem ended up being a combination of the ignition cylinder rod being bent and the fact that my firewall has been partially clutched thru. I got the rod fixed, defeated the nanny interlock switch with a 25 cent clip from the hardware store and put a massive washer on the clutch master cylinder to bridge the gap for the time being. Now it runs and drives.

Its got a bunch of odd little issues that are fairly normal for a car thats 21 years old and 215000 miles from new. The temp gauge didnt work( replaced the sensor, fixed it), the ABS speed sensor caused my speedo to freak out and abs light to come on(replaced it today, snapped bolt and now have it glued in), the tach doesnt work(ive glared at it out of the corner of my eye and tried to trace wires from the coil all of which seem to be the yellow and brown that is supposed to be the tach wire. I think i can drive without it for awhile) it runs rough for the first 10 seconds when it is cooler or hasnt been started that day(not sure yet what that is) and 1st and reverse are harder to shift at the moment(i replaced the master cylinder but not the slave cylinder as i didnt want to take the tranny out at the moment. Luckily ive fixed it by just starting off in 2nd, a brilliant fix if there ever was one )

Anyway you'll see me around here quite a bit trying to figure out these little details so i thought id introduce myself.

Welcome to TRS~!

Nothing like an older truck to while away the hours trying to figure it out...and replace rusty parts...lol

Sounds like the firewall has issues like my first Ranger...my clutch went through it also and I fixed it in a similar way...until I decided to swap the cab out for something in better condition...which led to five years of upgrades while the truck sat...

The warm up may be just the tube up from the exhaust...but it shouldn't matter much in warm weather...so it may just be moisture on the wires or a computer thing...that I know very little if anything about...

Anyway, glad you could finally make it on here...enjoy!

Oh, you didn't show your engine type and you can update your specs through the UserCP if you want...it actually helps when trying to diagnose things...unless otherwise stated in your post...

Im actually really enjoying getting it up and running again, i guess the 7 years away from it helped my mood.

Im not sure about the rough-idle-at-start thing yet. The o2 sensors have never been replaced since 2001 when i bought it and neither has the coil pack. Im thinking of replacing both as a precaution anyway plus with the tach having problems maybe the coil isnt in top running order. Im sort of scared to screw with stuff as after lubing, changing diff fluids to synthetic and running a bit of injector cleaner and octane booster its currently giving me milage in the very high 20s. I hope its not a wiring or computer issue as i know pretty much nothing about either.

I updated my car in the CP, thanks for telling me.
