Can anyone give me advice on whether or not it is worthwhile to go with ignition kit upgrades? I'm thinking MSD parts for everything (coil, coil pack, ignition, etc.). Anybody have any experience with these on the 4.0? I'm also putting in 19lb injectors and a tuner (if I can find one). Any recommendations for a tuner for my '93 ohv?

you'll probably lose power swapping the injectors, it wasn't designed to use them from the factory so it will run like crap. If all of the factory ignition stuff is in good shape you won't notice much of anything with the high dollar parts either. Tuners for EEC IV vehicles don't exist either, you add a chip to the service port on the EEC because the EEC is not re programmable like later obd2 stuff.

The only "tuner" I know of for the EEC-IV is the "Tweecer" (pronounced tweaker). You put a chip in, as Holyford mentioned, and then you can mess with the tune with a laptop. It's an incredible waste of money for a Ranger though, IMHO. Also, I'm pretty sure 19 lb. is the factory injector size on a 4.0 OHV.

Here is Tweecer's webpage: http://www.tweecer.com/

Thx

Thanks to both Holyford and Shane for the advice. I'm returning to the world of performance upgrades after years of being away. My last frame-off was before fuel injection was even the norm! I would appreciate any and all advice for tuning my '93 4.0 Ranger to a nice mild performance upgrade. I'm not getting around to heads, cam, and headers/exhaust just yet but would love to hear about other bolt-on (or beyond) applications!

There is also the QuarterHorse and Binary Editor.

But yea, waste of time without serious mods.

Thanks again, Shane. Do you have any advice about whether it's worthwhile to go with an aftermarket radiator and fan setup?
