Ok just my luck I just bought a 86 ranger. with 2.9 v6 and aauto trans now it gets warm and it doesn't want to back up very well. Looks to be the fluid has aready been changed so I guess a new tranny what fits without a lot of money and BS. its in nice shape and runs great if someone can help that would be great.

if it is transmission problems (you need a replacement for example), go to a junkyard, a transmission will run you about $200-$300 and getting it installed will take $150 in labor if you dont do it yourself

+1 on the Lucas...it has worked near miracles for me....it's worth a shot,just don't overfill the tranny.

Does sound like a shit tranny so if the lucas doesnt work and your going to fork out the money anyways I would shoot for swaping to the five speed there bulletproof ive beat the hell out of mine and still havent missed a lick and if im thinking right arent those the same as the explorer and for a reference look on craigslist most of the explorers trannys arr out good luck hope the lucas works
