Default Towing a 87 2.3 5 speed 2wd behind a motorhome

Hello All,
I have lots of questions for you guys,
1. Can i safely tow my Ranger behind a motorhome without harming the transmission or drive train?
2. I have been looking for tow bar mounts, anyone ever weld up their own, most places want over 300.00 for the mount kit, no bar, only the mounting kit

Thankis,
Rick

No, you will need to pull your drive shaft...... or swap in a 4wd transmission and transfercase.

The tranny is lubed by oil thrown up and apparently the parts that throw up oil are driven by the input shaft.

While parts of reverse and 5th will throw around some oil, the issue is that the mainshaft turns with the driveshaft, but the input and cluster gear remain stationary.

This means that the output shaft is spinning inside the "pocket bearing" that is located inside the input gear and this part is not getting lubricated.

this is aready a weak point in any manual transmission design....

Let me point out that when towing a 4x4 with a manual trans it is
recommended that you tow with the transfer case in neutral, but the
transmission in gear...
