The window on my driver's side has a little bit of play forweward and backward. When I roll the window down it causes it to wobble bad and then vibrate and jump as it goes down. I took the panel off and greased everything I could see, but there doesn't seem to be a visible problem. The window is only attached at two places that are very close to each other so I don't see how it could have much stability, anyone else experience this. I checked the passenger sid eand it appears to have the same play, but works fine.

Same Problem in the same exact truck haha. I took the door panel off and couldn't see anything wrong so i just sucked it up and got used to it.

It sounds to me like the rubber window run channel is dry, and grabbing the window as it goes up and down. The main problem is your regulator is probably worn, but you can make it glide up and down easier by lubing up the run channel. Just use some rubber reconditioner, or if you can't find any, use lithium grease in a spray can. A little bit will go a long way.

you should be able to adjust one of the tracks closer in to stop the wobble.

A non-silicone rubber care sprayable product will help...along with some white silicone grease sprayed onto the regulator track

I have a 1998 Ranger too. My Dad bought it new and it did the same thing when it was less then a year old. Still being under warrenty it was taken back to the dealer several times to fix the problem. After a call to ford and a trip to a differant dealer, all the inner "guts" (track, window motor, regulator ect..) were replaced. Mom gave me the truck when Dad passed 2 years ago, and the windows have never had the problem since that last fix was done almost 10 years ago. I know the first dealer had tried adjusting the track several times, and from what I recall replaced the parts that guide the window in the track with no success. I think it actually was defective tracks that was causeing the problem.

My 1990 was doing that (rattling & jumping while rolling the window down).
The fix was greasing the metal center channel that the regulator bracket (attached to the glass) slides up & down in.
