I just removed my dana 28 and beams out of the my truck. I am wanting to install the Dana 35 but I am waiting on a set of gears. Can I install the beams and hubs without the carrier and axle shafts and drive?
Its kind of a stupid rookie question. I didn't remove the dana 28 carrier from the beam when I removed it. Thanks for the help!

stuff a rag in the back of the spindles and you should be ok for a while, speaking from experience as I've pulled my pig lately, it's kind of a pain to get out but with my suspension setup right now my radius arm bushings are nearly maxxed out at ride height (I'll be working on that soon hopefully). I had both spindles removed, drivers side pivot bolt removed, did I mention it was raining?

Oh sorry about the terminology.
I guess this is going to sound stupid but when I take the d35 out I have to pull one axle shaft out, then take the other one out using the c-clip (I think?). But what about the axle shafts? Can I just leave them there? It should be fine if the hubs aren't engaged because it isn't spinning right?

You have to remove both shafts completely to get the 3rd out.
When I did mine I put the shafts back in (but not the inner passenger side stubbie that goes in the diff. Then I used a bungie cord and duct tape to secure the shafts so they don't flop around. I did this so no dirt or other crap would get in the hubs and such from the back side of the spindle (you could take the shafts out and stuff a rag in there but if it is raining when you drive good luck keeping the stuff out...). Have you eliminated the c-clip on the passenger-side axle shaft that goes into the pig? Do it now if you haven't. Makes removal of the shafts easier in the future...
