Default Tranny rattling while idling..

Hello. everyone.. I have a 1995 XL 2.3 5-speed.. When it's idling, it rattles from near the bellhousing. It only rattles at idle speeds and when the clutch pedal is out. If i have it idling, then push the clutch in, it stops rattiling. Also, the pedal doesn't go all the way up. It feels pretty limp untill its 2/3 the way down (My clutch fluid is full). Could the 2 problems be related?? Anybody know whats going on?? I'm pretty mechanical so i might be able to fix it myself. Thanks in advance for your answers..

my truck also has a loud rattle at idle until i press the clutch. i think my thrust bearing in the engine is DONE however, allowing the crankshaft to move forward and backward.

your pressure plate might be broken since the pedal is funny.

Before you start throwing money at it, get under there and check the exhaust shields. See if any are loose. The cat shield is close to the bell housing on the passenger side.

Symptoms are not always linked to the same cause.
