Air bags worth any thing

Got a set of air bags from a 98 ranger they worth anything? and how does a guy them them out? I have no clue how this truck has been rolled over and top smashed in and the air bag didt go off.
 
how do airbags help in a roll over? that's why they didn't deploy... if it did deply, the driver and passenger would be covered in chemical burns, and have major bruising, they are designed to only deploy in situations where the injuries they will cause, are less severe than the injuries they prevent (ie, head hitting windshield)

of course they have a value, but not enough that junk yards care... i've seen guys in jy's use them to launch oil drums in the air
 
Airbags are worth serious money. You can easily get a couple hundred bucks for each one.
 
Uhhhh, where? I couldn't tell if you were joking. If airbags were worth anything, junkyards would be pulling those all day long. Especially if they're a couple hundred bucks

Depends on the JY, engines are worth a couple hundred bucks but AFAIK they get crushed with the car unless someone wants them.

The airbag will not go off under a certain speed, 35mph IIRC, and there is a senser in the front end that has to sense so much of an impact.
 
you have to find someone willing to buy an airbag, thats the key, I'd just use it to launch something.

I checked here and you are not allow to sell them or remove them due to state regulations. They have to be removed only by a certified (currently certified) mechanic/specialist from what I understand. Junk yards could make a lot of money if they were worth anything.

There is a little gold plated metal ball held in place by a magnet and a set of conacts at the other end of a hollow compartment. The sensor has to be jarred with enough force to knock the ball off the magnet and let it roll up to hit the contacts and complete a circuit. Generally happens right about 35 MPH.

Interesting. I figured they just used a MEMS accelerometer. To the OP: +1, launch someting & post video.:D

Newer ones do. Particularly Ford vehicles equipped with IVD.

A 98 Ranger is old enough that is should still use the ball-style crash sensor.

The JY that I bought my heads from specializes in airbags. Every time I go down there they have lots of them on their shelf waiting to be delivered/shipped.
