just some info dont know if its useable but here it goes just did a 2.5 swap in my 96 and have had nothing but problems
1. the 2.3 oil pan will fit on the 2.5 except one bolt and useing the 2.3 pickup tube
2. pickup tube clearance issues had to bend
3.oil leaks from rear oil pan seal
4.oil pressure issues at idle

so what i am trying to say is do not use 2.3 parts on a 2.5 or vice versa as the 2.3 pan is to small the pickup tube too short and the back of the pan is almost a 1/16 of an inch off (enough to cause 4inch puddle every time you shut it off) and if you wanna go ahead and do it any ways go ahead but it will cost you your bottom end
and just to add the engine i put in had just under ten thousand kilometers yes 10,000

i used the 2.3 pan as the 2.5 one was cracked thanks to my dumb ass so its at the welding shop now getting fixed

does any one know if i am going to have to pull the motor again to change this f***ing pan????????

I've heard that you can lift the engine enough to clear the pan...just loosen off the motor mounts...but I've never tried it myself...there was a post on this not too long ago...try searching on oil pan change...

well i have to do it this weekend so i will let every one know if i swear alot sorry

No problem...I just tried the search on "oil pan change" and it didn't find anything relevant (but shows about 10,000 hits)...I'm sure someone will reply with a positive answer before the weekend...

Fortunately, I changed mine with the engine out of the truck...much easier that way...

Sorry to hear that Tyler. The oil pans looked identical to me other then the oil drain plug location, but then again that was with the naked eye.

Yeah, the engine has to be removed or at least raised enough to get the clearance for the oil pan to be removed. Hope things get better for you.

well i praying the bearings arent to bad because of the oil pressure issues but we will see the oil pan is at the welder so will pick that up tomorrow and get ready for the weekend im gonna change every gasket well im at it

as for the oil pan differences the 2.5 is about 4inches deeper than the 2.3 just thought id throw that in there for reference same goes for the pick up tube

hey hardwareman did you use the 2.5 engine mounts or the 2.3???

Sorry buddy, been pretty busy working lately.

No, I did'nt use the 2.5 mounts. I just unbolted my 2.3 engine mounts and bolted them onto the 2.5 block. Worked perfectly. I honestly don't remember anymore but I don't believe the 2.5 mounts would have worked.

thanks i was just checking because i needed to know if the larger 2.5 pan had the clearance how much clearance is between your oil pan and that cross member???

Tons of clearance for me. It's kind of weird too how the drain plug's on the side of the pan as well.

Also, the bolt's now a 15mm where as before it was 5/8".......haha

k good i havent had a chance to change the pan as i have been working non stop but when i get a chance i will let every one know if it can be done without pulling the motor
