BII tank in ranger

will the BII gas tank and crossmembers fit in a ranger behind the axle? I guess my main concern is if there is a difference in the widths of the frames and/or the tank fittin under the bed.

i know its too tall, but you can use a body lift to fix that. other than that im pretty sure youll be fine.

damnit, will the rear mounted tank found in 88 and earlier rangers fit with the bII crossmembers?

Bray,
The BII and Ranger aux. tanks are the same shape, I've had them side by side. The BII tank is deeper though making it hang low in a Ranger.

This is what the Ranger crossmembers look like. The one closest is the front. If anybody has access to the BII fuel tank crossmembers and can measure them, I'll go measure mine and we'll see if they're the same.

The rear crossmember in the Ranger will still support a fuel tank. The BII tank is taller and puts the filler at a crappy location, the fiberglass fenders didn't help either (I don't have a fuel door). I ran my filler up into the bed floor. I used a BII crossmember from infront of the tank and made a set of straps from steel stock. I thought I would like the BII tank back there but it has killed my departure angle so I'm opting for a fuel cell in the front of the bed.

ask AllanD if hes got a front crossmember for a ranger aux tank, I got mine from him. IIRC they are not the same as a BII crossmember.

zman-I've pmed him about the crossmembers, but he hasn't been active since the 7th

what's the possibility of me making one? looks like I just need a piece of flat stock with a coule holes for the straps, then shape another piece to halfway come over the top of the tank to hold it in

it could definitely be done.

Heres a better picture of it installed..

on the rear crossmember all you'll need to do is cut holes for the straps, they used that same rear crossmember all the way untill '97, just didn't punch the holes in it after '89.

awesome, thanks for that pic. that helps a lot. I think I'll go ahead and order the ranger tank that mounts behind the rear axle then figure out how to either mod a BII front crossmember or make my own (if AllanD doesn't have one from the ranger).

i didnt know the rear tanks were even available. where did you find them?

Sounds like tank #2 from a dual tank setup. Though I'm wondering where the spare tire goes.

IIRC, the original dual tank Rangers had a tire mount inside the bed.

FWIW, BII tanks hold 23 gallons, as opposed to the smaller Ranger rear tanks (I want to say those are 19.5), thus why it's taller. :icon_cheers:

yeah I dunno where the stock spare tire carrier was on the older rangers. I won't have one at all after I instal mine-I don't think the little 27" spare would do me too much good anyways. I think the ranger tanks are more like 13-14 gallons. like lil blue said they're much smaller making for a better departure angle

Fyi:

I mounted one up in my 94, but didn't like how low it sat for my application, so I opted for a fuel cell in the bed.

I still have the 90 Bronco II 23 gal. fuel tank if somebody wanted to pick it up reasonable...........would ship on your dime, due to size I would guess it would be costly.........

yeah that is pretty low, like I said I'll just stick with the ranger tank and figure out somethin to do with the front x member. just to confirm, I can use my original fuel pump in the smaller tank correct? I know I'll have to mod the float on the sending unit, I'm just curious about the pump.
